Lead type
Trucking insurance renewal leads, ranked by who will switch
A renewal lead is a motor carrier whose current FMCSA liability filing reaches its anniversary in the next 2 to 10 weeks. Nothing is wrong with its coverage, so this is a quoting window rather than a deadline: the weeks when a carrier can still compare before the policy renews. We rank each one by how likely it is to switch insurer, from what we measured at the source.
Where the renewal date comes from
A trucking liability filing stays on record with FMCSA until it is cancelled, and it carries the date the current insurer started. We use its anniversary. We checked that against the source: of the filings that ended in June to October 2026, 56% ended in that exact anniversary week. It is still an estimate, and every lead says so.
Ranked by likelihood to switch
About 21% of carriers moved to a different insurer at their anniversary. Tenure is the strongest signal: 35% switched at a first renewal, 12% after two years with the same insurer, and 3% after five or more. Some insurers lose far more carriers at renewal than others, so the current insurer adjusts the ranking too.

Frequently asked questions
How is a renewal lead different from an X-date lead?
An X-date lead is a cancellation an insurer filed, with an exact end date. A renewal lead is a carrier whose policy is coming up for renewal with nothing wrong; the date is an estimate and the carrier may well stay. That is why renewals are ranked by switch likelihood and cancellations by deadline.
When should I call a renewal lead?
A few weeks before the date, while there is still time to quote. The list starts 2 weeks out and runs to about 10, which is when agents usually quote commercial auto ahead of a renewal.
